Doug Horn has announced that Mother’s Refuge will be among the charities supported by The Horn Law Foundation in 2016. The Horn Law Foundation is the charitable arm of The Horn Law Firm, P.C. and has been supporting a variety of Kansas City area non-profit organizations since 2004.

Located in Independence, Missouri, Mother’s Refuge is a shelter for homeless, pregnant teenagers. The non-profit shelter provides a safe and secure home for young mothers and their babies. The picture shows the Mother’s Refuge home, which was completely re-built in 2014.

Typically, pregnant girls move into Mother’s Refuge before they give birth. They are able to stay at Mother’s Refuge for up to a year after the baby is born. In addition to maintaining their regular education, each Mother’s resident attends nutrition, money management, and parenting classes that help her effectively transition into motherhood.

Horn, who is on the Mother’s Refuge Board of Directors, is spearheading several fund raising efforts that will help with general operating expenses and provide additional resources for special projects. Mother’s Refuge depends upon a combination of state funds, grants, and other private funding.

Initially, Horn anticipates using social media appeals to help maximize the level of the Horn Law Foundation’s financial support. “We would like to see Mother’s Refuge make an even bigger impact for those who need it most. To give expectant mothers and babies a loving and supporting environment is priceless,” Horn stated.
