HIGHWAY SAFETY LEGAL EXPERT PROFILE

WHO:

Douglas R. Horn, founder of The Horn Law Firm, P.C.

Doug Horn founded Horn Law in 1990. Since then, his practice has increasingly concentrated in representing victims of motor vehicle collisions. Horn Law has an impressive track record in a wide variety of serious injury and wrongful death cases resulting from motor vehicle collisions involving cars, trucks, trains, motorcycles, rollovers and fire.

Prior to opening Horn Law, Horn represented insurance companies and other large corporations. This legal experience uniquely prepared him to represent plaintiffs in complex motor vehicle cases.

WHAT:

As our roadways grow more dangerous due to higher speeds and multi-tasking driver behaviors, motorists face a new universe of risk for injury and death. Horn’s case experience confirms other expert opinions that the general driving public too often falls into the following dangerous categories:

  • Inattentive or distracted drivers (The largest category of driver negligence, these drivers multi-task and use cell phones or other electronic devices)
  • Aggressive and/or reckless drivers
  • Alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers
  • Unsafe truck and commercial drivers
WHERE:

The Horn Law Firm, P.C., based in Independence, Mo., has consultation offices in Kansas City, Columbia, Springfield, and St. Louis, Mo.

HOW:

As a highway safety attorney, Horn uses his legal experience to advocate for highway safety. Horn’s contributions include:

  • Promoting legal, technological and enforcement solutions to the national distracted driving crisis;
  • Meeting and corresponding with transportation authorities, elected officials, national safety advocates and other experts to address the distracted driving solutions;
  • Regularly contributing to media outlets to advance public awareness and education on highway safety issues;
  • Attending meetings and conferences such as the fall 2009 U.S. Department of Transportation Distracted Driving Summit to further highway safety advocacy.

Through his representation of motor vehicle accident victims, Horn also advances highway safety by seeking civil damages that reinforce the laws designed to keep our roadways safe. Horn seeks civil damages against negligent drivers for recovery of medical expenses, lost income and other personal loss. Recent Horn Law motor vehicle negligence cases include:

  • A woman who suffered serious injuries in a truck rollover collision in an interstate accident in northwest Missouri
  • A motorcyclist who was killed when a car pulled out in front of him at a dangerous highway intersection
  • A passenger who suffered extensive burns on an Arizona highway as a result of defective fuel pump repairs
  • A construction worker who was permanently disabled in a violent rear-end collision caused by a distracted driver
  • A chiropractor client who suffered permanent hand injuries in an accident caused by a drunk driver in Columbia, Mo.
WHY:

Horn is committed to his role as a highway safety attorney, which affords him the opportunity to raise public awareness and push for laws that improve highway and public safety. Horn also takes great satisfaction in helping individuals and families recover full compensation after a traumatic injury, disability and/or death caused by a motor vehicle collision.
